On June 10, 2012 the Commission for Social Justice of the Grand Lodge of New York of the Sons of Italy in America honored our own Dr. Anthony Tamburri at its annual Solidarity Breakfast at Verdi's of Westbury, New York.
 

Dr. Tamburri is the Dean of the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute of Queens College of the City University of New York and Professor of Italian American Studies. He was honored by the Commission for his outstanding scholarly achievements and numerous accomplishments and awards over the years for his research, writing, teaching and other efforts related to the Italian American culture and experience and in recognition of the degree to which his efforts have contributed to the Commission's primary goal of combating defamation of Italian Americans and others by:
1. fighting bias, bigotry and defamation aimed at Italian American as well as other groups, and
2. promoting a positive image of Italian Americans by highlighting the lives of prominent individuals such as explorers, scientists, inventors, athletes, writers, composers, artists, painters, educators, etc..
